What is CTR (Click-Through Rate)?

Also known as: Click-through rate, Click rate

Definition

The percentage of people who click a link or CTA after seeing a post or ad — a key KPI for lead-gen and e-commerce campaigns.

In-depth explanation

Formula: (clicks / impressions) × 100%. Benchmarks: organic Instagram link-in-bio 0.5-2%, paid Meta ads 1-3% on average, paid LinkedIn 0.5-1%. A low CTR with high engagement usually means the content is appealing but the CTA is weak.

Example from agency practice

A client has an Instagram bio link CTR of 0.3% (low). The agency tests new bio copy with an explicit CTA "Order via the link" → CTR rises to 1.1%. 3.7x more clicks on the same follower base.
