What is Algorithm?

Also known as: Social media algorithm, Feed algorithm

Definition

The automated system of a social media platform that decides which posts each user gets to see — based on behavior, interests and interactions.

In-depth explanation

Algorithms prioritize content based on signals: how quickly people like or comment after publishing, how long they keep watching, and past behavior. For agencies it's important to make algorithm-friendly content: native formats (Reels on IG, document posts on LI), publishing at peak times, and actively managing community engagement in the first 30 minutes.

Example from agency practice

An Instagram post that gets 50 likes in the first 30 minutes gets shown to more people by the algorithm. So the agency turns on DM notifications to reply to comments while they're still "warm" — reinforcing the algorithm signal.
