What is Scheduling?

Also known as: Post scheduling, Auto-publishing

Definition

Automatically publishing social media posts at preset dates and times — without anyone needing to step in at the moment of publication.

In-depth explanation

Scheduling is the foundation of professional social media management. Instead of manually uploading posts every day, you plan all posts for the coming week or month in a single session. The software publishes automatically at the scheduled time.

Nuance: not all platforms allow fully automatic publishing. Instagram permits it via official APIs, as does TikTok (since 2023), and LinkedIn and Facebook have for years. For Stories and some content types you sometimes have to work through notifications (the tool reminds you at the moment to post, and you make the final click).

Example from agency practice

On Friday, the agency schedules the entire following week for client Y: Monday 10:00 a LinkedIn post, Wednesday 17:00 an Instagram Reel, Friday 09:00 a carousel. Saturday evening the agency owner goes out to dinner without a worry — the posts go live automatically.
