What is Carousel post?

Also known as: Carousel, Slide deck post

Definition

A social media post with multiple images or slides that the user swipes through — typically 2 to 10 slides, popular on Instagram and LinkedIn for educational content and storytelling.

In-depth explanation

Carousels are used heavily by agencies because they earn 3-5x higher engagement than single posts: the user spends more time on the post (by swiping), which the algorithm reads positively. Carousels are ideal for "How to do X in 5 steps", explaining product details, or telling a story in chunks.

On Instagram, carousels go up to 10 slides; on LinkedIn too (via the "document post"). On TikTok, the "Photo Mode" variant has existed since 2023. For agencies, it's important that their scheduling tool can plan and preview carousels natively — not all tools do this well.

Example from agency practice

For client "Coach Linda", the agency schedules a weekly carousel post with "5 mindset tips for entrepreneurs" — slide 1 as the hook ("Stop doing this"), slides 2-6 each a tip, slide 7 as the CTA ("Follow for more"). Engagement is 4x higher than on single posts.
